Happy heavenly birthday to Ella Baker, an influential civil rights activist who was also known by her Swahili nickname – “Fundi,” which means, "one who teaches the next generation."

Ella Josephine Baker’s career spanned over five decades, and during that time she became involved in organizations such as the NAACP, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). She fearlessly fought Jim Crow, supported young activists, and championed economic justice and voter freedom.💥

Honor Ella Baker’s courage and resilience today. Let us know how you’re engaging with social justice in the comments and visit the link in our bio to find out how you can further #CommitToJustice today.
