## Caption

This is my fourth pregnancy loss, but the first one I haven’t suffered silently.

If you didn’t yet have a reference point for something affecting 1 in 4 pregnancies, now you have mine:

Day 0: final ultrasound for what was supposed to be 9 week graduation from my IVF clinic. Instead found no heartbeat and a missed miscarriage. Horror & shock. 

Day 1: Emotional agony. Drove to empty parking lot and turned my speakers all the way up so that I could scream at the top of my lungs for a few seconds in private. 

Day 2: prep for D&C, hoping we can test the fetal tissue for any potential genetic clues about the loss and prevent prolonged process of miscarrying. Also my 36th bday. 

Day 3: D&C under anesthesia- don’t even remember being driven home. groggy recovery, lots of sleep. 

Days 4-6: mild cramping, mild bleeding. watched severance, white lotus, love island. 

Days 7-8: turn for the worse. feels like going into labor, contractions bring me to my knees for hours. Passing terrifying blood clots & hemorrhaging. Schedule follow up ultrasound.

Day 9: repeat ultrasound confirms no retained tissue but massive blood clots that need to be passed. Prescribed heavy pain meds for when contractions hit and prepped with max absorbency pads for hemorrhaging. 

Now and onward: monitoring symptoms over coming month, weekly blood draws to track my HCG returning to zero, preparing for hemorrhage, reviewing financial options for a future egg retrieval / embryo storage to have the option for another transfer attempt one day. 

I’m feeling OK. The pain is slightly duller and not as sharp as last week, both physically and emotionally. So grateful to be lifted up and feel seen by so many women who have walked this road. Just hoping to make it slightly less lonely and easier to talk about for the next woman who finds herself here. 🤍
