## Caption

It’s a pretty amazing testament to modern science that I can even see this photo of Space Baby (technically Space Blastocyst 🚀) which shows the cluster of cells representing our single genetically healthy embryo at the time of transfer. 

After positive bloodwork and home pregnancy tests, the next critical milestone is the 6 week ultrasound: we’re looking for a gestational sac, a yolk sac, and the flicker of developing rhythmic heart cells. 

It’s an exciting and terrifying hurdle because I’ve been here 4 times before, despite having only one child. 🤍 In my first pregnancy after Delta, this ultrasound was a sad disappointment— we never saw the flicker of rhythmic heart cells and the pregnancy didn’t progress. In my next pregnancy, we made it past this point but I had a second trimester miscarriage, which is a story for another time. My third pregnancy after Delta was a chemical, with my cycle starting days before what would have been my 6 week ultrasound appointment. 

After a few years and an IVF journey with genetic testing, I’m so carefully optimistic about my 5th pregnancy. 

Beyond my own fears, I’m also strangely scared of the possibility of letting so many of you down after you’ve shared in my celebration (although I know that’s irrational!) My husband, funny enough, is fretting about the congratulatory flowers we’ve already received from family and friends. I assured him no one will feel they wasted money or effort on us. It’s funny how your mind can spin to the most inconsequential details in the face of big stress.
