We hold the power to shape our planet’s future.
On today’s #WorldEnvironmentDay, we take a look at the current crossroads our species faces. The decisions we make can determine the fate of our natural world.

Ocean ecosystems decimated by overfishing or barren lands leveled by deforestation still have a chance to rebound with life once again; they just need our help. Taking the path of protection plants the seeds of renewal for all of Earth’s interconnected species. But at this junction, our continued inaction doesn’t prolong the decision, it becomes the decision – one that leads us further toward imbalance and loss. Instead, we can set planet-positive change in motion and kickstart #GenerationRestoration, becoming a beacon of hope for those who will inherit the Earth.

We know ecosystem revival is possible. We’ve witnessed our planet’s resilience within the boundaries of marine protected areas. When regulations allow our ocean’s ecosystems the space they need to thrive, ecological balance restores, endangered species return, and populations recover.

This improved ecosystem success doesn’t remain secluded within the invisible bounds of a protected region. Though some may worry about the impact on the fishing industry when restrictions limit the area they can operate in, studies unveiled no decrease in their yield when local legislators introduce marine protected areas. With migratory marine species venturing onward after a respite of safe passage or recovered fish populations spilling over the area’s boundary, the region’s improved condition permeates throughout the surrounding seas.

We have the chance to rewrite our ocean’s story and send hope rippling through the waves! Witness the impact of marine protected areas and the immediate need for their creation in our new episode of “A Sea of Hope: Aotearoa New Zealand: The Beauty and The Barrens.” Visit the link in our bio to watch.
