When I think about grief I have often associated it with losing someone I love. But recently, what I’ve found it to be is a myriad of different forms of loss that don’t necessarily include the physical passing of someone or something: a relationship or partnership ending, missing out on an opportunity, a climb that I didn’t send, a change in a business relationship, broken trust, coming to terms with big change…

It all can weigh heavily and leave a residue of stress that accumulates for me if I don’t acknowledge it. I’ve gone about loss without processing often; passing through and compartmentalizing in order to juggle multiple things at once and to keep my goals on track. But, I’ve found life has a pretty loud way of telling me to slow down, to stop, to sit still, and to absorb - whether it’s been major injury or what feels like a mental paralysis. I’m really working on listening to my body to preserve my long term health, joy, and appreciation for myself and for the people I love.

Despite how social media can create a facade of only the good times, I’ve had a really rocky summer and I’ve found a lot of progress, faith, and passion again in what I’m doing from taking some time to sit still with myself. All to say, if you have had some moments like this, I do think it’s worth considering feeling where this hits in your own body and working with it not just getting through it.

Since Here to Climb came out and I saw this process in me begin to take place (which is a weird feeling to see this unfold for me on a screen), it has served as a reminder even to myself to be present.
