#OnThisDay in 1979, the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater opened with a performance by the Grand Kabuki of Japan.

The performance was followed by four other performances featuring Japanese works. The government of Japan and several private groups within Japan donated $3 million (in 1979 dollars) to help complete the theater.
