I’ve always wanted to try anamorphic lenses but was nervous to build a huge rig. I then found out there are some budget friendly and quality anamorphic lenses that can be used without a large setup!

You may think about anamorphic lenses for video but I wanted to test photos first. When you stretch these photos out, you get a beautiful wide panoramic photo that works perfectly in stacks. It’s nice to know that this lens can deliver an endless amount of the wide aspect ratio photos that use the full sensor. The 3:2 aspect ratio gets desqueezed to 2.4:1 aspect ratio!

I did manage to test it for video as well and I was impressed. I need to improve my manual focus skills and shakiness, but these lenses delivered a really cinematic quality without me having to edit too much. The 16:9 aspect ratio gets desqueezed to 2.8:1 aspect ratio!

This lens is small, and I have another Sirui lens (the 75mm) which has the same focus and apeture ring locations if I wanted to build a rig out. I chose the neutral flare which combined with the unique bokeh, gives a really beautiful shot. There was an option for the blue flare but I wanted my image to be more neutral. The 1.6x squeeze ratio delivers a wide 22mm look which fits more into my style of wide angle photo and video.
