Leaving it all out on the road 🥵

The Queen stage of tirreno_adriatico was always going to be a decisive one. Without any major General Classification battle in the days prior, the peloton went into today heading into the unknown with the final climb set to shake up the standings on stage 6.

derekgee97 was protected well by his teammates on the run into the climb, with the IPT blue and white lined out at the front of the bunch before the lefthand turn into the climb to Frontignano. From there, it was all down to the GC contenders and who had the legs.

Gee dug deep to climb to sixth on the stage, which was enough to retain 4th on GC, but a bittersweet result being just four seconds off the podium ahead of the final stage.

“It was a really hard one,” Derek explained. “The boys were amazing, they got me into position on the last climb perfectly. I’m happy with the legs, disappointed with the result, but that’s the process.”

As he builds up towards the Giro d’Italia, Gee sees this Tirreno Adriatico as a learning experience.

“It has been a really good learning experience. Sitting fourth now, knock on wood, and we almost lost it one day with the cross winds so it has been a whole process of learning and getting the small things right on the GC project.”
