Strong sprints to 6th in the scorching summer sun 🇦🇺 

Excellent teamwork from the boys all day, culminating with Simon Clarke and Mike Woods both chasing multiple moves in the finale, set Corbin Strong up in the sprint for second place at the cadelroadrace after Swiss rider Mauro Schmid took the win with a late solo attack after the final ascent of Challambra Hill. Despite efforts to close the gap in the final kilometers, ultimately, Strong settled for sixth place to continue his run of top-ten finishes at the closing race of the Australian summer season. 

“The heat added another element to the race,” explains Strong. “I think it made it really hard from lap two. Our plan was to make it really hard on the climb to get rid of the best sprinters but I think I already knew from lap two onwards it would just be about getting myself over the climb because with the heat, it was just a really hard race. In the end, I think it played out perfectly for us, we just ran out of numbers and legs in the final two kilometers.”

As always, Strong’s consistency at the first races of the season was noticeable, however the Kiwi was quick to self reflect on the finish line: “I think I’ve got to start racing more aggressively, be a wee bit more aggressive, as the pure sprints haven’t been going that well for me.”

That’s a wrap on the Australian racing block but there’s a big season still to come and Strong is motivated to shake things up in Europe, after taking on the New Zealand national championships.
