Thirty years ago I worked as a biologist collecting data on Arctic wildlife. Back then I believed science was the key to convincing the world to protect animals like lynx in my northern Canadian home. But data alone could not unlock funding, spur action, or change the minds of politicians eager to drill into Canada’s fragile ecosystems. That power belongs to storytelling. 

Stories make distant, complex issues personal. They help us grasp the present and imagine a better future. After failing to reach the hearts of the public as a scientist, I turned to photography to capture the story of our planet and inspire people to fight for it.

In a week and a half, I’ll be speaking in Whistler, BC. The event is sold out, but I love sharing the stories behind my work and hearing from others who share my passion for nature. So if you missed out, don’t worry—I’m always looking to do more events close to home.
