‘The Waiting Game’ and ‘Coastal Spirit’ | As the salmon runs near their end in mid-October, the surge of life flooding the coastal rivers of the Great Bear Rainforest lures all manner of wildlife to the water’s edge. The season is marked by transformation, death, and rebirth as the salmon race to reach their natal streams to lay their eggs before succumbing to exhaustion. Among the animals drawn to the feeding foray are the region’s elusive spirit or Kermode bears, which are black bears born with white fur thanks to a recessive gene.
