## Caption

Along the Pacific coasts of North America, the height of the annual salmon runs are one of the first signs that summer is coming to an end. Grizzlies, black bears, and even the elusive spirit bears of British Columbia’s coastal forests all seize their chance to gorge on fish before returning to their winter dens. It’s the time of year when the sun’s visits grow shorter and when I inevitably begin to feel nostalgic for the far north. I was born in Canada and raised in the Arctic where I lived closely in tune with the environment. Each year when the seasons change, I find myself falling back into the rhythms of nature.
