“Proper preparation prevents poor performance” ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ▪️Officially halfway through my Cardiology Fellowship and this slogan perfectly aligns with my experience thus far. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ▪️Here I’m placing a Swan Ganz Catheter, which is a thin tube that’s placed into the right side of the heart and arteries that lead to the lungs. We use it mostly in very ill patients as it allows us to monitor the heart’s function, blood flow and pressures around the heart. My first several times encountering this procedure were embarrassing to say the least but with “proper preparation” I’ve become confident and competent in placing, interpreting and managing the device to help guide patient management. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ▪️The second pic confirms that’s I passed the Internal Medicine Boards, so now I’m officially a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician. I took this exam last year and failed. I’ve never failed an exam so it was shocking. I didn’t study the first go round as I thought I could just go take and pass the exam. The test humbled me. This second attempt I used “proper preparation” to “prevent poor performance” and passed by a large margin. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ▪️Moral of the story: we can do and overcome anything we are faced with if we properly prepare!
