Legendary Defender didn't pull any punches, but some episodes hit harder than others.

One of the best examples of this is the two-hit combo of The Black Paladin and The Black Paladins.

The Black Paladin, the season 1 finale, starts dramatically. Shiro snaps at Coran and Hunk realizes that Keith would abandon him if it made sense, tactically.
ㅤ
We then see Allura in shackles brought before the man who destroyed her world, only to find out she's now bait in his plan to reclaim Voltron.
ㅤ
As the title suggests, this episode centers around the pilot of the Black Lion. But not just Shiro, who has a lengthy and personal duel with Haggar. It also features a battle between the former and future Black Paladins, Zarkon and Keith.

The whole episode goes from one emotional scene to another and ends with a cliffhanger when the wormhole they're in collapses. Fans could not wait for season 2.

By giving season 6, episode 5 such a similar title, The Black Paladins had a lot to live up to.

The episode isn't as action packed, but it's even more emotional.
ㅤ
It starts with Voltron fully formed, only for the team to disband to propel Keith in Black Lion through a wormhole in pursuit of an apparently treacherous Shiro.
ㅤ
Keith eventually discovers that his mentor and found brother is not the original Shiro, but a clone and sleeper agent of Honerva. This leads to an extended sword fight that pushes Keith to his physical and mental limits. All the while, he remains convinced that the real Shiro is still inside of the clone somewhere. He refused to let Shiro go.
