It's the 3rd of the month and a Friday, that means it's time for Voltron: The Third Dimension fan art! 

1997's 3D animated Voltron series introduced the first variant of the Mighty Robot: Stealth Voltron. This was still Lion Force, but with a smoother design and darker colors to avoid detection. 

Stealth Voltron's power came from another dimension. To form Stealth Voltron, the team needed to activate interdimensional lock, connect stealth servo systems, and set stealth engines to maximum. 

Artist Michael DeLaubenfels was a fan of Stealth Voltron, although he thought the design could be tweaked. His version bulked up the area behind Voltron's head, adding wings. While it doesn't match standard Voltron's silhouette, it feels closer to capturing his shape without sacrificing the stealth concept. 

He also changed the color arrangement. Normally Stealth Voltron's face has the same colors as standard Voltron but a minochromatic chest plate. Michael reversed that, giving the chest plate its normal colors but making Stealth Voltron's face all grey. We enjoy the added color to his chest, but we do miss how the color in the face made Voltron recognizable. 

One of the reasons we like to dedicate the 3rd of every month to this obscure era of Voltron history (besides our love of wordplay) is because every series is some fan's first exposure to the Mighty Robot. 

And one of the reasons Artful Friday is a regular segment is because we love seeing the different ways our fans showcase the impression Voltron left on them. 

Finding Michael's Stealth Voltron art reinforced both. The Third Dimension may be a forgotten series to many, but to Michael and fans like him, it's part of what makes Voltron great.
