For twelve laps, wsucougarxctf standout kurui541 patiently sat behind pacemaker Patrick Kiprop, until he decided he'd had enough.

Evans Kurui then threw consecutive laps of 63, 64 & 64 en route to running the 10000 in a meet record 27:37.32 at the Stanford Invitational Friday night. It's the third fastest time in WSU school history, only behind Henry Rono's school record of 27:22.5 set in 1978, and Samson Kimobwa's 27:30.5, set in 1977.

Kurui led 12 men under 28 minutes in perhaps one of the deepest fields in collegiate history, including teammate Josphat Meli's 27:59.27.
