SIGNING ON TO FRESHMAN YEAR: Inspired by the signing ceremonies held for senior athletes beginning their college careers, the Fine Arts Academy hosted a signing ceremony this Wednesday for rising freshmen majors. Dot McColgin, who currently attends Lively Middle School, attended the ceremony to be signed with the dance program (second photo). McColgin felt like the signing ceremony was a good way to acknowledge the time applicants spent auditioning for the fine arts academy.

“Being recognized by McCallum made me feel happy because of all the effort everyone put in to get into McCallum,” McColgin said. “It felt nice to have our hard work be recognized.”

Asides from receiving acknowledgment for her hard work, McColgin felt that the ceremony was a good introduction to McCallum’s culture.

“I think that it’s good to have ceremonies where we learn about our school’s history because I think it’s good to know about the culture and community of the school I will be attending,” McColgin said.

At the ceremony, McColgin and other rising majors were also educated about their courses next year.

“The signing ceremony was a good introduction to McCallum because we learned a lot about our classes,” McColgin said. “I feel that it definitely prepared me more for what to expect on the first day of school.”

Now that she feels prepared for her first day, McColgin is anticipating attending McCallum next year.

“I am looking forward to the dance department and sports at McCallum and just being in high school,” McColgin said.
