This 1968 Marcos 1600 GT Competition Coupé is powered by a later Ford ‘crossflow’ engine—an enduring favorite in motorsport circles thanks to its simplicity and tuning potential. The reconditioned unit features twin 40 DCOE Weber carburettors and a four-branch tubular exhaust manifold. Originally acquired in 2008 by an enthusiast aiming to race with the HSCC, the Marcos saw limited competition at Snetterton and Oulton Park in 2009 before being stored. It was fully recommissioned in 2021 with overhauled and re-jetted carburettors, a renewed ignition system, and other key mechanical updates before being sold to its current owner in 2022.⁠

Accompanied by a rich history file—including the original handbook and workshop manual, MoT certificates, vintage photographs, and extensive service records—the car benefits from notable upgrades such as an AP clutch, competition master cylinder, rebuilt engine, new wheel bearings, and Yokohama tyres. It also boasts 13” Minilite wheels, a plumbed-in fire extinguisher, full roll cage, Securon harnesses, adjustable pedal box, and a suite of Smiths instruments. The marine ply chassis remains in excellent condition, and while the glassfibre body shows minor micro-blistering on close inspection, overall presentation is strong. A compelling and accessible entry into historic motorsport, this Marcos is equally suited to racing, hill climbs, or spirited road use.⁠
