## Caption

I met annette_summersett last year at Wup It Up 2023 (in Chicago). As we treaded East on Lawrence in search of good coffee before the sessions on Day 2 (only half calf because who wants to be in a co-write with some severely over caffeinated humans?!), we bonded over production talk, songwriter life, moving around in search of a home base and the challenges that come with being a woman in a super male dominated field. (See the stats below). 

I was elated to catch up with Annette this year and chop it up about some of her developments since our last year’s hang.

*Every year since 2018, USC Annenberg’s Inclusion Initiative report — dubbed “Inclusion in the Recording Studio?” — has broken down the gender and race statistics from the credits on Billboard’s Hot 100 songs chart, typically highlighting just how male-dominated the songwriting and production fields truly are. This year was no exception: nearly 65 percent of the 164 listed recording artists on the Hot 100 tracks are men, along with 94 percent of the 217 producers and about 80 percent of the 441 songwriters via rollingstone
