According to new rules approved in Massachusetts, land-based shark fishing is banned on Cape Cod and most of the surrounding coastline. Chumming from shore during daylight hours and fishing with a drone or other mechanized device are also outlawed. Officials say the rules were needed to protect both great white sharks and the general public.⁠
