We flew before the sun yesterday to the southern Egyptian/ Sudanese border… only for a couple of hours so we could lay eyes on #AbuSimbel. Trying to wrap your mind around how long this has existed (1264 BC) is one thing… then the fact that UNESCO moved it in 1964 due to threat of rising water (the entire site was carefully cut into large blocks, dismantled and reassembled in a new location that’s 65 metres higher🤯). My inner primary school historian is completely nerding out with all of this incredible history!🇪🇬

Also…Ramses erecting 4 colossal statues of himself had to have been one of our first pieces of historical evidence that we need more women in leadership. (He did dedicate the smaller of the two temples to his wife, Queen Nefertari by ordering 2 statues of her…next to four more of himself🙄).
