“Muted Expressions” was Tsherin Sherpa’s (tsherinsherpa) response to the devastating 2015 earthquake in #Nepal. Disembodied human hands and feet cluster together and appear as a single entity, evoking the unfortunate ones trapped under collapsed structures.

In this month’s #HimalayanArtUpClose video, Rubin Museum (rubinmuseum) Executive Director Jorrit Britschgi and Dr. Steven Zucker of Smarthistory (smarthistory_official) examine the details of this powerful contemporary sculpture, which was displayed in dialogue with traditional Tibetan art in the Rubin’s “Reimagine: Himalayan Art Now” exhibition, currently on view wrightwood659 through February 15.
