So I’m 3/4—roughly— done with college, sitting in a quandary about whether or not I should continue the pursuit of my basketball career. It is so easy to project contentment with your life through the lens of social media; in fact, I am quite guilty of that manner lol. These past few years have been very difficult for me to be my happy self that I perceive to y’all, let alone regulate the simplicities in my life (such as, getting out of bed). The humbleness and humiliation of my collegiate career thus far have led me to believe in these continuous false narratives that I’ve heard from others and told myself. This administered mental self-destruction, blinding me from the blessings that I have now.

I thought this year would be a breakthrough for me after I was baptized, but it wasn’t. God has a lot in store for me after a humiliating year filled with injuries, disappointment, worry, depression, etc. that I wasn’t prepared for yet. I’ve concluded that maybe this year was a test of my trust in Him. That being said, it doesn’t change the reality that mental health issues are so freaking real and should never be ignored.

However, I’m thankful to God for all that has happened to me along the way because, without those experiences and lessons learned from life, I wouldn’t be the testimony that I am today. In addition, I hope that by sharing a bit of my journey and narrative, I may encourage one person to keep going for their dreams and to realize that life is bigger than the obstacles they face. The bigger the stumbling block, the greater the stepping stone! Having persevered through the full year, I think this is one of my life’s most remarkable experiences. And even though things haven’t gone as planned, I had a mustard seed of faith and sometimes that’s all God needs.

Isaiah 40:28-31 is my favorite verse and I know that God willing, I’ll soon be able to soar like an eagle, run and not be weary, and walk without fainting.

As for my last year as a collegiate athlete, I plan on cherishing every moment and seizing the opportunities that I’ve been dreaming of since a little girl❤️ #PrettyNSecure #GoldenChild
