This billboard, placed in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2020, features a Klansman “hood” sculpture of the same title, fashioned from the campaign flags of Puerto Rico’s pro-statehood party.⁠

In our recently published book, Where Do We Go From Here?, Artist miguelluciano_ny writes; “This work was designed to provoke audiences in Puerto Rico to question aspirations toward Puerto Rican statehood, particularly at a time when the president of the United States had deliberately mistreated Puerto Ricans as second-class citizens in the wake of Hurricane Maria.”⁠

The image was displayed on a digital billboard off the highway near Plaza Las Americas, the largest shopping mall in the Caribbean. It lasted for one day before being censored. As the country turned its attention to Puerto Rico this week, and with just days until the Election in the US and Puerto Rico we’re bringing Miguel’s work back to the top of the grid.⁠
