🐕‍🦺 “Gregory’s role goes so far beyond what I ever imagined,” says Canine Companions #facilitydog Gregory's handler, Jenna Ebener. “He’s more than a helper. He’s a participant. He’s playing games, modeling social skills and engaging with students in a way that’s truly empowering for them.”

For the past six years, Gregory's been partnered with Jenna, a licensed social worker at Fletcher Miller School in Lakewood, Colorado. Gregory's been a vital part of the school’s social-emotional support programs, fostering learning and development in ways that go far beyond what most would expect from a dog. His unique abilities have captivated students and staff, from math and literacy to social skills and self-regulation.

“Gregory shows our students that learning can look different for everyone, and that’s OK,” Jenna explains. “He models patience, persistence, and the power of trying again, which are lessons our students carry with them.”

Since 1963, Fletcher Miller School has been a cornerstone for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The school’s roughly 100 students range in age from preschool through 21 and often require extensive medical and educational support. 

Facility Dog Gregory's been instrumental in supporting students with not only his 40+ tasks he mastered in professional training at Canine Companions before graduation, but also his additional tasks he learned as a partner to Jenna. With a myriad of tasks he performs, he's able to provide a deeper impact on students, both an emotional and educational level.
