How does the weather affect your golf shots? Here are 4 weather conditions and how can you deal with them. First is the wind. Obviously hitting into the wind hurts your shots, but how can you tell how much? As a general rule, you add 1% of yardage for every 1mph of headwind,  and for a tailwind, you subtract 0.5% of yardage for every 1 mph of wind behind you. So if you’re 100 yards out and hitting into a 10 mph headwind, you should play it as a 110 yard shot. But if you’re 100 yards out and hitting with 10 mph tailwind, you should play it as a 95 yard shot. Next is temperature. The warmer the conditions, the further the ball travels. As a general rule, the golf ball travels 1 yard further or shorter for every 5.6 degrees change in temperature. So next time you go on a sunny golfing holiday, allow for a few extra yards. Next is Altitude. The higher up you go, the further the ball travels. For every 2500 feet of elevation above sea level, you can expect your ball to travel up to 5% further. The Mexico open is played nearly 8000 feet above sea level meaning golfers can hit their shots over 15% further. And finally is humidity. Although the air might seem denser, humidity actually makes your ball travel further. Golfers can expect to gain around 1 yard for every 15% increase in humidity.
