What is the longest drive of all time? 🏌️‍♂️  There have been many long drives in many situations, but which is the longest? Who has the most legitimate claim to hitting the longest drive ever? First, let’s look at the official longest drive on the PGA Tour. To be counted on the official list, drives have to be in a stroke play event, recorded by shot link data, and travel primarily by carry and fairway roll. The record belongs to Max Homa who hit a 477 yard bomb at the 2023 Sentry at Kapalua. Dustin Johnson missed out on topping this list with his 489 yard drive because it was in a match play event. Carl Cooper’s 787 yard drive in 1992 also isn’t included because it bounced off a cart path and happened before shot link data existed. There was also allegedly a 515 yard drive at the US seniors open by Mike Austin in 1974 that was included in the Guinness book of records, however, this reading is widely disputed. We personally can’t see how a wooden driver and your balata could be hit that far. But what about other times when people have tried to hit it as long as possible? The longest recorded drive in a world long drive event was by 2018 world champion Maurice Allen who smoked a 483 yard bomb at the Mile high show down in Denver. But Kyle Berkshire topped this when he went out to try and hit the longest drive ever and crushed a 579 yard bomb. Although he had a 22mph tail wind and 7000 feet off elevation, the ball still carried an incredible 515 yards! Berkshire also holds the ball speed world record at 241mph, making him the king of long drive. We think that Kyle Berkshire has the most legitimate claim to hitting the longest drive ever.
