Prime Scheffler vs Prime Mcilroy: who would win? 🏌️‍♂️ We compared their stats for each part of their game during their best years to find out! First is putting. It’s no secret that putting has never been Scheffler’s greatest strength.  His best putting year was 2024 where he gained an average of 0.18 shots per round. Mcilroy’s putting has been more streaky over the years. His best putting year was in 2022 where he gained an average of 0.53 shots per round, giving him the first point. Next is around the green. Both players have Tidy short games but it’s Scheffler that edges this one. Rory’s best year around the green was 2022 where he gained an average of 0.47 shots per round. But in 2023, Scheffler gained an average of 0.53 shots per round around the green giving him the second point. Scheffler started counting his chip-ins with his caddie at one point. Next is Approach play. The stats show that approach play is both players' biggest strength, but who comes out on top? Rory gained an average of 1.24 shots per round with his approach shots in 2012. But Scottie comes out on top with 1.58 shots gained per round on approach shots in 2024, making it 2-1 Next is off the tee. Both players are strong off the tee but Rory is exceptional. Rory’s best year was 2014 where he gained an average of 1.51 shots per round off the tee. Compared to Scottie’s 1.19 in 2023, leveling it up at 2-2 Next is strokes gained tee to green. Both players excel tee to green and it’s a close call. Rory’s best year tee to green was 2012 where he gained an average of 2.84 shots per round. But Scottie was unstoppable in 2024, gaining an average of 3.11 shots per round   From tee to green, giving him the win by 3 points to 2. And finally, total strokes gained. Rory’s best all round year was 2022 where he gained an average of 2.57 shots per round. But Scottie was super human in 2024, gaining 3.11 shots per round in 2024, giving him a 4-2 win. This is purely speculation based off previous data, but in golf anything can happen. Scheffler and Mcilroy did play each other at the 2023 Dell Mach player and Mcilroy came out on top. What we do know is Scheffler and Mcilroy make a great team. They destroyed Brooks and Bryson in the PGA vs LIV match a few weeks ago. Let us know which players we should compare next!
