I’ve been a professional balloon designer for 3.5 years, and there’s a lot of things I know now that I wish I would have known when I started my business. But by far the biggest one of all is:

Figure out your artistic style and stick to it.

It took me about 6 months to really lean into my specific design style when I first started. In the beginning I just wanted any job that came my way (which is totally fine, especially when you’re new!) but I found myself taking jobs that did not fill my cup, and competing to get those jobs with about 8,264,484,687 other balloon professionals.

Then one day I decided to stop saying yes to absolutey every job that came my way and started saying yes only to the jobs that matched my desired artistic style.

My style in three words: sophisticated, elevated, elegant. What does that mean for me?

It means that I work with a LOT of custom colors (my absolute favorite thing to do), that my clients aren’t the ones looking for classic balloon decor and primary colors, that I don’t typically do on-the-nose themes, and that I get to fully enjoy the art I’m commissioned to create.

What else does it mean? It means that when a person wants elevated, sophisticated, and elegant balloon decor they come straight to me. I may not be the cheapest option, but they know the level of design they’ll be getting and are willing to pay for that level.

Tell me three words that describe YOUR artistic aesthetic! If you can’t yet define yours, take a look at the comments to get some ideas for how to define your talent.
