𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝟏𝟒𝟓 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐀𝐏: Week 4 vs USC (W #1007)

No. 18 Michigan kicked off 2024 Big Ten play with a thrilling 27-24 comeback victory over USC at The Big House. Down four points with just over four minutes left, Michigan orchestrated a decisive 10-play, 89-yard drive, capped by Kalel Mullings’ one-yard touchdown on fourth down with 37 seconds remaining.

Mullings carried the ball eight times on the drive, including a 63-yard run, and finished with 161 yards and two touchdowns on 18 touches. His two explosive runs of 63 and 53 yards marked Michigan’s longest plays of the season. The Wolverines’ ground game dominated, racking up 290 rushing yards, with contributions from Donovan Edwards (74 yards, one touchdown) and Alex Orji (43 yards).

Michigan’s defense was key in the first half, holding USC to just three points and -16 rushing yards while forcing three-and-outs on all three of USC’s first-quarter drives. Josaiah Stewart and Derrick Moore spearheaded the defensive effort with a combined six quarterback pressures, two sacks, and three tackles for loss. Will Johnson added a 42-yard pick-six in the third quarter, setting a program record with his third career interception returned for a touchdown.

Despite surrendering 14 unanswered points in the second half, Michigan’s late-game heroics sealed the win, led by Mullings and the Michigan Offensive Line. Mullings’ touchdown ended USC’s short-lived 24-20 lead, and the Wolverines’ defense secured the victory with a final stop, sealing the 1007th victory in Michigan Football history.
