## Caption

Coming to UConn as a shy freshman in the peak of the 2020 pandemic, I struggled making friends, getting involved, and maintaining the academic standards that I set for myself throughout high school. So much so that I withdrew my housing, and did online school for the second half of the year. However, I had no idea that coming back my sophomore year would change the entirety of my remaining experience at UConn. 

I discovered my organization, Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc. and immediately felt drawn to learning more about its values that so deeply resembled my internal ones of inclusion, sisterhood, and leadership. Through my sorority, I learned how to speak up for myself, to speak up for others, and to create spaces of inclusivity that may be lacking on our campuses. 

What I didn’t know, was that the office that my chapter fell under would also make such a lasting impact on my growth! Becoming a member of the Center of Fraternity and Sorority Development was the turning point of my experience where I was given the opportunity to pursue further leadership on the council board, attend conferences, and be recognized for awards my senior year such as Outstanding Chapter President, NGLA Greek Leader of Distinction, and the PRLACC Excellence in Leadership Award, while also getting Dean’s List for both semesters within my senior year. The expectations that this office places on their Fraternity and Sorority members do an exceptional job at pushing their members to be distinct characters on campus and carry into our lives after graduation. 

If you are looking for change, growth, and meaning from your college experience, I will always say being an active member of your organizations will do that for you as you learn to give back to them as well. Thank you CFSD for your lasting impact, and allowing my college experience to change for the better the second I discovered what your office had to offer.
