"This collection of images from Trona Pinnacles spans two outings to the area. My first was to serve as an introduction to the location while primarily attempting to make a star trail image, though I arrived too late to scout and setup the camera. The next morning, however, I was really revolted with the amount of campers peppering the landscape. Despite endless possibilities, I had a difficult time ignoring the distractions, and I left frustrated after having made only two images.

A month later and after some reflection, I returned with a more open mind for another attempt. I had not stopped thinking about the prospects and thought that if I accepted the challenge I could break through my aversions to the sullied landscape. I'm quite grateful that I did, because I made many images over two days, which I'm quite pleased with.

This series reminds me, as I learned early on, that photography is not just about what you photograph but also what you don't. Sometimes I might not be able to achieve exactly what's in my minds eye, but by accepting constraints and pushing myself creatively, the results can be prosperous." - Mike
