We are grateful that United States Air Force Second Lieutenant Louis Sullivan ’20 was able to visit us this week to spend time with our CHS Flight Club.

Sullivan begin pilot training at Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training at Sheppard Air Force Base earlier this year.

He spoke about being in the ENJJPT and the road he took to get there. After his time at CHS, Sullivan joined the Air Force ROTC as a freshman walkon at the Rochester Institute of Technology before transferring to Brockport State.

He earned a full academic scholarship for the remainder of his time at Brockport, where he majored in communications and had a minor in aerospace studies meteorology. Sullivan also earned his personal pilot’s license during that time.

“Being a Man For and With Others is still something I strive to embody every day,” Sullivan said in the most recent edition of CHS Today magazine, which featured several alumni who served or are serving in the military. 

“Canisius taught me that excellence and service are achieved through action when no one else will rise to the occasion.”

The CHS Flight Club, moderated by counselor Dr. Mark Veronica, is open to those interested in aviation. 

The club’s headquarters is home to our three flight simulators, with which students compete in pilot skills competitions. Sullivan mentioned to the students how time in the simulators is extremely valuable for a pilot and those who are training to become one.
