#OnThisDay in 1968, Memphis' City Council and the sanitation workers agreed to a deal to resolve the strike. Gains from the sanitation strike included wage increases, improved benefits and an agreement to end job discrimination. They were denied a pension, however, in the agreement. 

The men risked ALOT while fighting for better wages—reminding us that learning from the past is essential to building a more just and equitable future.
