The Great Bear Rainforest 🌲 6.4 million hectares of untamed wilderness, towering cedars, and mist-laced mountains. And in the middle of it all, hjonnirobinson met one of its most elusive residents—the legendary spirit bear.

The spirit bear is a white-furred subspecies of the American black bear, caused by a recessive gene. Only about 1 in 10 bears in certain areas carry this gene. The bear is considered a guardian of the forest, and efforts to protect it often reflect a commitment to protecting ancestral lands and Indigenous sovereignty. Its elusive nature and ghost-like appearance have made the spirit bear a symbol of mystery, balance, and resilience.
