For this week’s Sony Alpha Female challenge, the theme was red. I spent all week wondering what I could possibly do for this theme. Red isn’t normally a color I work with so this was a struggle for me. It wasn’t until I sat down today and listened to Rose Colored Boy by Paramore that it hit me.

When I was younger I was told I view things with rose colored glasses. This is my way of representing how sometimes I used to just shield myself from reality and focus on only the good and ignore certain things.

Fun fact -I took this photo with no studio. I just have a super simple pop up backdrop that’s white on one side and black on the other. Easy peasy! 😂 I used two Godox Litemons LP1200R panels to illuminate myself and add some red behind me. Keeping it real simple for my own self portraits saves me so much time and a little bit of sanity. 😅

The rest is photoshop which has been my faithful companion for as long as I can remember.

The end photo is my original (YIKES ITS ME 💀). The first photo is my end result. The second is a composite I made for fun because I love playing with lighten and screen modes in Photoshop! 😝

I love these types of challenges because it just pushes my creative boundaries and that will always translate into all areas of my work. I’ve been seeing so many of you share some of the most creative photos I’ve ever seen so it’s been inspiring. This is your sign to be creative this year. Whatever that may be - just do it. Your future self will thank you!
