I have been known to buy my fair share of antique ceramics when I travel — especially the kind that feel like they’ve lived a few lives already. I’ve visited this charming shop in Puglia on a few occasions now, and every single time, I walk out with something unexpected and special.
Tucked away in a quiet corner of Ostuni, this spot is a true treasure trove. Shelves stacked high with hand-painted bowls, rustic pitchers, and platters so beautiful they feel like heirlooms. Half the time, I don’t even know what I’m looking for until something speaks to me.
And yes, it also features a surprising (and hilarious) collection of wildly phallic ceramics that the owner accidentally started collecting. It’s hard not to leave with a story.

A few tips for ceramics shopping in Italy (learned the fun way):
1. Talk to the owner. Most shopkeepers are proud of their pieces and love to share stories about the artists, patterns, and materials. It adds so much depth to what you take home.
2. Have multiple payment options. Some small workshops and antique spots don’t accept cards (and even if they do, they’ll often give you a better deal if you pay in cash).
3. Pack smart. I almost always travel with a tote bag in my suitcase in case I find a delicate ceramic treasure that needs to be carried on.
4. Ship it or wrap it. If you fall in love with something bigger, ask about shipping. I’ve also managed to bring some pretty large pieces home in my checked luggage—just use plenty of clothes or bubble wrap to pad your finds. (My scarf has doubled as protection more than once!)
5. Go slow. The good stuff isn’t always on display. Take your time, peek into corners, and open that drawer — magic hides in the details.

I love finding these spots and I already know I’ll be back again, probably with a bigger bag and just as little restraint🙃
