Lee Strobel—a former award-winning legal editor at the Chicago Tribune and once a passionate atheist—investigated the resurrection with the mindset of a skeptic. What he found changed everything.

Here’s a breakdown of the 4 E’s Strobel uses to make the case:

1. Execution
The Journal of the American Medical Association (1986) published a detailed medical analysis concluding that Jesus’ death by crucifixion is “historically and medically certain.” Even Gerd Lüdemann, a German New Testament scholar and outspoken atheist, says it is indisputable that Jesus died on the cross.

2. Early Accounts
Historians like James D.G. Dunn—a leading British New Testament scholar—date key creeds affirming the resurrection to within a few years of Jesus’ death, making legendary development virtually impossible.

3. Empty Tomb
The earliest critics didn’t deny the tomb was empty. They claimed the disciples stole the body—which ironically affirms the tomb was indeed found empty.

4. Eyewitnesses
More than 500 people claimed to have seen Jesus alive after his death. These accounts were so early and widespread that they form the backbone of the earliest Christian preaching. Even accounts from secular Roman politicians from the 1st century. 

Strobel wasn’t convinced by blind faith—but by verifiable history.
