Let’s head to the Sunshine State for our Army JROTC #Cadetoftheweek☀️ 

Meet Shayne Higginson, a senior at Fort Myers Senior High School in Fort Myers, Florida. 

Higginson joined #ArmyJROTC and has found countless opportunities within the program to help shape her as a leader and expand her horizons. 

“I have been able to build my leadership skills, join teams I had never known about, and participate in incredible events like the National Flight Academy. It has also instilled in me a deep appreciation for service, encouraging me to give back to the community and opening the door for a future in the military—something I had never considered a possibility before.”

Higginson is currently the Battalion Commander for the Greenwave Battalion. She’s led the Color Guard and Drill Team, competing in state competitions for both. Higginson has also participated in marksmanship, JLAB, and drone competitions. 

Outside of #JROTC, she loves giving back to her community. Higginson mentors elementary students, volunteers at a local food kitchen and church, and she participates in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives Page and Messenger Program. 

“JROTC has shaped me in ways I never expected, and because of that, I am committed to leaving a lasting impact. I hope to continue improving the program for future cadets, ensuring they have the same—if not greater—opportunities to learn, lead, and grow.”

She draws leadership inspirations from Matthew McConaughey’s “Ten Years Ahead” speech. 

“This speech resonates deeply with me because it reinforces the belief that my greatest competition is my future self. I don’t seek perfection, but rather the continuous pursuit of growth, resilience, and excellence.”

After graduation, Higginson plans on doing Air Force #ROTC and pursuing a career in Aerospace Engineering ✈️

Fun fact: Higginson plays the French horn.
