Today we head to the Empire State for our Army JROTC #CadetoftheWeek 🗽

Meet Evan Clemente, a junior at Thomas A. Edison Career & Technical Education High School in Jamaica, New York.

Clemente is interested in the STEM field, and currently studies Robotics. He joined #ArmyJROTC as a freshman to try something new and transition well into high school.

“On a tour, I saw the JROTC office, and I found it intriguing. Hearing about JCLC, academic competitions, armed exhibitions, and other activities, I was fascinated...My dad was also in the Marines, and it’s a way of learning more about the armed forces. It was also another way to make more friends since I knew absolutely no one going to my school.”

With the Inventors Battalion, Clemente has held many leadership roles and is the Distinguished Cadet for the school district. He is on the Archery Team, the Junior Leadership and Academic Team, the Robotics Team, and the Armed Exhibition Drill Team.

“Since joining JROTC, many new doors have opened for me. This program has allowed me to grow academically, socially, physically, mentally, and in many more ways. It gave me chances to compete at a national level for various teams. These teams have also let me travel to places I never got to go before.”

Outside of #JROTC, Clemente loves being athletic. He holds a Junior Black Belt and competes in Track and Field. He is a member of numerous clubs, including the Science National Honor Society and the Orientation Team. He also volunteers his time teaching younger students at his mixed martial arts school.

As a leader, he is team-focused.

“Being a leader is not just about my individual performance. I want my whole team to do well, and as the leader, it’s my responsibility to make sure we get the job done.”

Fun facts: He enjoys playing video games, practicing knife tricks, and watching videos.

After graduation, Clemente plans to pursue a career in STEM.
