“There are fewer than 7,000 adult cheetahs left in the wild,” says natural history filmmaker Wim Vorster. “Alarmingly, this magnificent species has vanished from 90% of its historical range in Africa.”

Habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and illegal trade continue to drive that decline. “As filmmakers, it’s crucial we document endangered species like cheetahs—especially as their habitats face increasing threats,” Wim explains. “Every species contributes to the health of our planet—and it’s our responsibility to protect them.”

Wim has spent years tracking cheetahs across the African wilderness, from sunrise to nightfall. “There’s nothing like watching a mother raise her cubs in the wild,” he says. “You learn each individual—and hope they survive to adulthood.” But it’s grueling work. “Most days start before dawn and stretch into the night, covering huge distances.”
