It’s okay if you are.

Last week I was sitting with a mother and a child who had been patients of mine for about 4 years. We were talking about setting up a co-treat with her son’s speech therapist so we could tweak the programming to see if he could hear and produce the /p/ vs /k/ sounds better. She was searching desperately for an answer, clinging to these small tiny sounds and wanting a fix.

What I heard and felt was deeper. I felt her voice still overcome with grief.

Grief isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s quiet, sitting in the “what ifs” and the “should have beens.” My favorite bonus interview in my online Parent Guide is with my mom. 40 years later my mom still has a little part of her that feels my deafness is her fault.

When your child is identified as DHH, you’re not just adjusting expectations — you’re navigating a new world.

You are allowed to grieve.
You are allowed to dream new dreams.
And you are NOT alone. 💛

Let’s talk about it — because honoring your emotions is the first step in showing up fully for your child. Let me help you through the process, at your own pace.
