Laurel Prudhomme is a #volunteer from the Southwest Region and a four-time (and counting!) puppy raiser, who's part of the Canine Companions Rocky Mountain Chapter in Colorado. Her journey with Canine Companions began two decades ago, after learning about us through a conversation with a graduate. Upon discovering all that his #servicedog did for him, Laurel felt inspired to contribute - though, she initially met resistance from an employer who denied her request to have a dog in the workplace. 

“I put the idea of being a puppy raiser on the back burner,” Laurel says. Her motivation simmered then, but the flame never truly went out. When circumstances allowed her to finally take on #puppy raising, Laurel did so with gusto. 

“The things I like most about puppy raising are, first: I love seeing the wheels turn in the pups’ heads as they're learning. I’m amazed at what these dogs learn to do. My second-favorite thing about it is sharing the puppies with people when we're out in public,” Laurel adds. 

She explains that such moments provide organic opportunities to share the mission of Canine Companions with others - perhaps, to people who may have felt that same spark like she did more than 20 years ago. 💛💙
