#TSRPolitics: The Trump Administration has released another executive order aimed at HBCUs. The order will continue the work begun during Trump’s first term, which aims to strengthen private-sector partnerships, expand research and workforce training, and overcome obstacles to federal funding for HBCUs. ___________________________________ 
The order also established an annual HBCU summit and a Board of Advisors comprising business, education, and philanthropy leaders to guide the strategy. This builds upon the Trump 1.0 administration’s forgiveness of over $300 million in HBCU capital financing debt, securing permanent funding through the FUTURE Act and providing $255 million annually to Minority Serving Institutions and HBCUs.

Recently, federal directives have posed a challenge to this legacy. The U.S. Department of Education has issued guidance mandating schools to eliminate DEI initiatives or risk losing federal funding. This move has significant implications for HBCUs, which heavily rely on such funding to support programs that promote inclusive learning environments.

It also calls to dismantle the Department of Education resonate differently. The DOE serves as a crucial gateway for students at HBCUs to access grants, scholarships, and campus resources.
