UPDATE: had a really helpful call with Alto today & am grateful to learn that they do have a process and standard of care for ALL patients who experienced mistakes or delays with orders to submit for reimbursement or credits for the potential cost difference of emergency meds at a pharmacy. It was an honest mistake that that wasn’t communicated upfront 🫶

Also had a great call with Walgreens, who shared escalation paths their pharmacists can pursue going forward to help find equivalent speciality/emergency meds & reroute billing to their specialty pharmacies!!👏

Fighting your way through endless chambers of customer service escalations with orgs or insurance (and losing) is an often invisible part of the IVF process. Just the cherry on top to a hormonal rollercoaster.

I spent all day trying to reach a supervisor re: my undelivered meds and got only a mountain of apologies and placating empathy from support specialists (I know it’s not their fault but it’s insane to me that a company whose entire practice is servicing critical meds for women in vulnerable cycles doesn’t have a reliable escalation process in place.)

After multiple assurances all day that someone would definitely call me back to help sort out and solve the massive price difference after they re-routed an emergency transfer of the prescription to Walgreens, I finally just had to drive there myself before 8PM because I was scared they would close and not having this dose could ruin my whole cycle.

I called one last time from Walgreens and once again, the support specialist spent 30+ min trying to reach an elusive supervisor with zero luck. Just genuine apology for me (I don’t blame her.)

I’m so lucky - because I can swipe my card for this stupid amount tonight and walk out the door with the dumb Gonal-F injection I need, and then try fight it in the morning. But so many women can’t do that. And I’m so completely pissed off and frustrated by the reality of our healthcare and insurance systems.

(And you’re not blameless here either walgreens bc what do you MEAN “this location isn’t one that can run emergency IVF prescriptions through insurance and only specialty Walgreens can do that”)
