Why Aggies? That’s an easy answer — selfless service. It is at the core of who we are at Texas A&M University, transcending time, place and generation.

In a remarkable display of Aggie spirit, students from the BUILD organization — alongside the Texas A&M College of Medicine’s Rural Medicine Outreach and the Texas A&M Telehealth Institute — transformed a 40-foot shipping container into a fully functioning Texas Aggie Medical Clinic (TAMC) for Sarita, Texas. Before this clinic, Kenedy County had zero medical facilities and no access to health care. Residents often had to travel hours to receive basic medical services.

Now, for the first time, community members can access critical care close to home. Centrally located across from the local school, this clinic represents more than a physical structure — it symbolizes hope, healing and a future built on service.

This project exemplifies the Aggie Core Values pouring out of every corner of the new clinic. It showcases the future of Texas — business leaders, political leaders, parents, and everyday citizens — being trained today through acts of service and leadership.

The BUILD program began as a tribute to the 12 Aggies lost in the 1999 Bonfire collapse, embodying the spirit of unity, resilience and a commitment to help others. Through BUILD, more than 15,000 student volunteers have constructed over 50 clinics that serve communities across the globe — and now, here at home in Texas.
