On Wednesday, April 30, the City of Columbia will unveil a statue honoring Dawn Staley — a coach, a leader, a trailblazer whose impact stretches far beyond basketball. 👏⁣

Over 17 seasons, Staley has transformed South Carolina’s women’s basketball program into one of the most dominant forces in the country. 🇺🇸⁣
•⁣
With 3 national championships, 7 Final Four appearances, and 14 consecutive NCAA Tournament berths, her on-court accomplishments are unmatched. 🏆⁣
•⁣
Commissioned in 2023 and unveiled with the support of Statues for Equality and generous community partners, the statue will stand at the corner of Senate and Lincoln Streets outside the university's Pastides Alumni Center — a location chosen by Staley herself to leave the space outside Colonial Life Arena reserved for her players. 🥹⁣

This tribute celebrates not only a champion and Hall of Famer, but a force for good who represents excellence, resilience, and purpose. Staley’s influence in Columbia, across South Carolina, and throughout women’s sports will live on for generations — now with a statue to prove it. 🔥⁣
