## Caption

We loved the way the eighth-generation GTI drove when it was launched back in 2020, a shifty hot hatch with enough dynamic range to be entertaining on a racetrack yet tame enough for a comfortable commute. For the 2025 refresh, it gains a much-improved user interface and other tweaks. But, sadly, it loses the option of what has long been one of the GTI’s most alluring features: a manual transmission.
