In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, we’re proud to celebrate the voices, talents, and contributions of our AAPI community at Joffrey Ballet School.⁠

Throughout May, we’ll be sharing a series of features across our social media platforms, highlighting past and present faculty, choreographers, and artists through archived photos and videos.⁠

We begin today with Tsai Hsi Hung tsaihsihung — a powerful force in contemporary dance and a valued choreographer of both the Joffrey Concert Group joffreyconcertgroup and our NYC Jazz & Contemporary Trainee Program.⁠

Tsai Hsi Hung, a graduate of Taipei National University of the Arts, has an extensive international dance career, including exchange studies at Queensland University of Technology and collaborations with companies such as Australian Dance Theater and Chunky Move. Her choreographic work has been showcased across the U.S., with performances by MET Dance, BalletX, Joffrey Academy of Dance, and Battery Dance Company, among others. Hung has received numerous accolades, including a 2020 Choreography Fellowship from the New Jersey Council on the Arts and the 2021 National Choreography Competition at Western Michigan University. In recent years, she has created and premiered works for Ballet Hispánico, Kennesaw State University, South Chicago Dance Theatre, Joffrey Concert Group and continues to teach and choreograph for institutions such as Taipei National University of the Arts, Milwaukee Ballet, Arkansas Ballet, and the Joffrey Ballet School.⁠
