“We’re giving them an opportunity to be on the ice just like the other kids their age. We have a lot of kids on our team that have autism. We have kids that are ADHD. We have kids that have Down syndrome.”

Three years ago, Julie Doucette approached Hockey New Brunswick with the idea to create a neurodivergent hockey program to give children like her son, Olivier, the chance to play the game in a safe and supportive environment. 

This season, the program ran in Dieppe, Quispamsis and Fredericton, featuring 10 bi-weekly sessions run by volunteer coaches and local high school hockey teams.

Players are taught passing, skating, puck control and shooting, but it’s all about having fun.

Il y a trois ans, Julie Doucette a approché Hockey Nouveau-Brunswick avec l’idée d’un programme de hockey pour personnes neurodivergentes afin de donner à des jeunes, comme son fils Olivier, la chance de jouer au hockey dans un cadre sécuritaire et bienveillant. 
 
Cette saison, le programme était offert à Dieppe, à Quispamsis et à Fredericton, et proposait 10 séances bimensuelles animées par des entraîneurs et entraîneuses bénévoles et des équipes d’écoles secondaires locales.
